Philip Duncan, VP Operations
Dr. Philip Duncan has spent the past 17 years developing solutions in areas as diverse as interventional cardiovascular medical devices, blood glucose sensors, microfluidic chemical reactors, and autonomous industrial IoT systems. He participated in several med-tech startups before joining Xidas in 2017 where he is the VP of Operations / Director of Lifesciences, and serves on the Board of Directors. In his current roles, Dr. Duncan is involved in day-to-day operations delivering products to customers, in addition to long-term development activities with the design and launch of new product lines. He has a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from UC Irvine, and numerous patents have been filed as a result of his contributions.
Mark Bachman, CEO
Mark Bachman. Ph.D. currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer of technology startup (Xidas Incorporated) in Southern California that produces next-generation microdevices and microfluidic products for biotech, medical, industrial, and consumer applications. Prior to working at Xidas, he held faculty positions in the departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Biomedical Engineering, at the University of California Irvine. Dr. Bachman is an expert and leader in the field of micro-scale engineering, and has been working in this area for over 20 years. Dr. Bachman’s career has spanned a wide variety of experiences, working as a physicist in national labs, a professor in academia, an entrepreneur in business, a public speaker and consultant in industry, and a social entrepreneur in developing countries. Mark earned a B.S. in Physics and a Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics from the University of Texas, Austin.
James Harvey, Manufacturing Director
James Harvey is Director of Manufacturing for Xidas. He has 5 years of experience proving out new technology for products and bringing products to market. James leads manufacturing R&D strategy, and operations for Xidas. His work at Xidas includes design, test, and manufacturing in fields of packaging technology for miniaturized electromechanical industrial, miniaturized electromechanical life science components, Internet of Things (IoT) energy harvesting designs and IoT devices.
Prior to joining Xidas, James was in the US Navy for over 6 years. During his time translating Arabic, he concluded that the main sources of unrest in the world are a lack of prosperity, education, and opportunity to succeed. He left the US Navy to pursue a career in engineering to promote peace through the prosperity engineering can bring. James believes that his current work with Xidas will help fulfill unmet needs and enable production of novel solutions for current and future problems to increase prosperity and opportunity locally and globally.
James holds a Mechanical Engineering, B. S. and a Materials Science Engineering, B. S. from the University of California, Irvine.
David Park, Board Member
David Park is a successful serial entrepreneur, investor, board member, and adviser that currently serves as Regional Partner at Kairos Ventures, and several other venture firms, and is an advisory board member to several tech startups that have been acquired. David has an excellent track record in early stage investing; his portfolios include unicorns Bumble (NYSE: BMBL), TaskRabbit (acquired by IKEA), FastDetect (funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), Squad (acquired by Twitter; NYSE: TWTR), BeautyCon, Rebelmail (acquired by Salesforce), Trunk Club (Acquired by Nordstrom), Honey (acquired by PayPal), Squad (acquired by Twitter; NYSE: TWTR), Eloxx Pharmaceuticals (NYSE: ELOX), and many others.
David is a former advisory member to early-stage startups from UCLA & USC Ventures, and was interim CEO of a healthcare IoT company that led to a successful acquisition by Samsung Health. He is a proud UCLA alumni, a Draper Fellow, an active supporter of K12 education initiatives, a philanthropist focused on technology and conservation, founder of The Innovation Foundation, and an honorary member of Variety Magazine’s Top 100 Young Entrepreneurs of Silicon Beach.
Jim Demetriades, Chairman of the Board
Jim Demetriades is the Founder and CEO of Kairos Ventures, a serial entrepreneur, and early-stage investor. At Kairos, he has created a new style of venture capital investing that has financed and supported the development of numerous world’s first technologies that seek to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges.
Prior to founding Kairos, Jim started SeeBeyond, a software company that invented and patented several technologies in the software industry. Jim grew SeeBeyond into the world’s largest organically matured and self-funded integration software company in dozens of industries around the world, including top-tier companies such as GM, Porsche, BMW, Pepsi, and many others. Jim took the company public and subsequently sold it to Sun Microsystems (now part of Oracle) in 2005.
Jim has also been a real estate owner, manager, and developer. He currently serves on the boards of numerous portfolio companies and is active in various philanthropic and political initiatives.
George Lauro, Board Member
George Lauro has spent 25 years as a venture capitalist, investment banker and board executive, funding and building technology companies. Has been a Partner at 3 VC Funds and Board Director at 7 public and 26 private companies, and has built several tech companies to high-value M&A or IPO exit. He has a very rich history in managing and running venture and equity firms, helping startups grow into high valuation.
George began his career as an MIT engineer developing inertial guidance systems for spacecraft and intercontinental ballistic nuclear missiles at Draper Lab and MIT Aero/Astro dept. He attended Brown (BSEE), The Wharton School (MBA) and MIT (grad studies in aeronautical engineering). George was an MIT/Draper Fellow, and was a prolific inventor with 23 patents awarded in missile guidance, wearable electronics and wireless algorithms
George is a board director on multiple startups and tech companies.
